Linux Professional Group and Course Technology Partner to Deliver Sair Linux
and GNU Training and Certification
Thomson Grants Rights of the Sair Linux and GNU Certification Program to
Linux Professional Group (LPG)
Stamford, CT. June 27, 2002 - Thomson Learning, the world's leading provider
of corporate learning solutions and part of the Thomson Corporation, today
announced that it has partnered with the Linux Professional Group (LPG), a
non-profit developer of Linux curriculum, training, and testing, to deliver
the official Sair Linux and GNU certification and training materials.
Under the terms of the agreement, LPG will be responsible for maintaining
and administering the Sair Linux and GNU certification program. This
includes exam maintenance, Web site support, issuing Sair Linux
certificates, and providing phone support for the certification. LPG will
support and maintain the Accredited Center of Education (ACE) partnership
program, which allows organizations certain branding rights and courseware
discounts for the Sair Linux and GNU training and certification. LPG will
also market the certification and training at trade shows and other venues.
Course Technology, a Thomson business and the worldwide leader in computer
education products and services, will be the exclusive authorized provider
of the Sair Linux and GNU official curriculum, training manuals, exam
preparation, and instructor support materials. In addition, Prometric,
another Thomson business and the world's leading provider of computer-based
assessment and testing services, will offer the Sair Linux and GNU
certification exams at its testing centers worldwide.
"Thomson felt that it was in the best interest of our customers to place
this certification in the hands of the Linux community," said Alex
Brnilovich, president and CEO of Thomson Enterprise Learning. "As a learning
business, Thomson is committed to supporting the Sair Linux and GNU
certification and training programs. Our role in the certification process
is to support training with the best teaching and learning materials and to
support certification through the world's leading testing and assessment
provider. That is what we are most comfortable doing with Linux, and that is
why we are especially pleased that a non-profit group like LPG will be
driving the certification."
LPG president Bill Patton commented, "In the very spirit of Linux being a
free and open system, we are pleased that Thomson has provided our
non-profit group with this opportunity to work with them on delivering an
excellent and valued vendor-neutral certification. It seems appropriate for
the product and its customers that we partner in this way. We've reviewed
other Linux programs for on-the-job competencies, training, and testing, and
nothing matches the comprehensive curriculum and testing set forth by the
Sair Linux and GNU certification."
The Sair Linux and GNU certification is a vendor-neutral program that
validates skills and competencies for the Linux operating system. The
curriculum and certification are developed in conjunction with Linux
developers and Fortune 500 companies who use the Linux operating system in
the workplace. Individuals who become Sair Linux and GNU certified are able
to provide industry-recognized credentials that are critical in today's
competitive job market.
LPG's Web site and Web support were launched June 20, 2002. Customers and
business partners are encouraged to visit <www.linuxpg.org> for more
