Parent article: Ten Years of Slackware

While I'm now a Debian follower, it's safe to say that Slackware changed my life: if it hadn't been for Slackware and my 16 MHz '386SX (8 MB RAM, 30 MB DLL ST-251), it seems likely that my plunge into Linux would have been delayed for quite some time. I still remember firing up several modems at night from my job, so I could download floppies in parallel. My battles with xf86config and my Hercules monochrome card lasted for quite some time, such that when I first saw the stippled X background, it was akin to a religious experience. In the years since, I've used most every distribution out there, but my early days with Slackware are my fondest Linux-related memories. [Though I have to admit -- I could've sworn Slackware used a .97 kernel at some point. Have I fabricated a memory?]

Thanks, Patrick, and here's to another 10 years of Slacking...

No, that was probably Slackware 0.9. It's hard to find any information about pre-1.0 releases.
