Genode 10.08 Comes with Gallium3D, MadWifi, Qt4.6.3 (OSNews)

OSNews covers the release of the Genode OS Framework version 10.08. "Today, the Genode OS Framework has seen another feature-rich release, introducing support for hardware-accelerated graphics by the means of Gallium3D, wireless networking via the MadWifi communication stack, a new block-device infrastructure, and Qt4 version 4.6.3. Genode is a modular framework for building special-purpose operating systems, currently supporting 6 different kernels. With the new release, its device-driver coverage reaches a new level and brings the project one step closer towards the goal of shaping Genode to a general-purpose OS."

MadWifi?

MadWifi is essentially unmaintained. Everyone should be using ath5k and ath9k instead. I don't quite understand what Genode is good for, but if they package obsolete software and present it as a feature, I'm not interested.

This is L4, not Linux

Granted, you could never tell from the osnews.com article. Here is the project homepage:

http://genode.org/

The website looks professionally designed, with quite a lot of overview verbiage, but I could not figure out who this should interest and how this system feels in practice. Curious.

As for Madwifi, they probably choose it because it's fairly OS agnostic. You end up just writing a shim between the madwifi core and the OS driver model.

I don't quite understand what the above comment was good for, but if its only about bashing other people's work, I'm not interested.

FYI: If you'd do a bit of research about the makers of Genode, you'd find out that they know quite a bit about what they're doing.
