What I find really strange is the obsession with finding out if someone is who she says she is, while it doesn't really matter. The really important part is to uniquely identify someone. That's why GPG keys without a trust path to you are still useful: I can see that all the work we've been doing in the past is with the same person, and I don't care if his name is the same as appearing in the gpg key.
And that's what is annoying about GPG, I can't say "I trust this person" without saying "I know this person is who she says she is".
