Firefox 3.6.6 is now available as a free download for Windows, Mac, and Linux from
http://www.firefox.com. This release makes a small change to the crash protection feature
introduced in Firefox 3.6.4, increasing the amount of time that Firefox will allow a plugin to
remain frozen before terminating it. For more information, see the Mozilla Blog announcement about
the release at http://blog.mozilla.org

We recommend that all Firefox users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.6
you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours. This update can also be
applied manually by selecting "Check for Updates?" from the Help menu.

For a list of changes and more information, please review the Firefox 3.6.6 Release Notes.

All Firefox 3 and 3.5 users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 3.6 by downloading it
from http://firefox.com/ or by selecting "Check for Updates?" from the Help menu and clicking on
"Get the New Version", then checking for updates again once Firefox 3.6 is installed.

Can anybody reveal why Debian doesn't package 3.6 yet?

They decided to ship 3.5 with Squezze (because of xulrunner version common with thunderbird and something else). If you want 3.6, you have to install version from experimental.
Well, it means that at least for next half a year Debian will be shipping outdated version of one of the most important applications.

Yep, but it's still up to date it seems.
I'm sometimes reading mailing lists, and nowhere I've found any notice about changing these plans.

Firefox 3.5.* is still working, get security and bugfixes.

Far from "outdated" I think.

Debian not shipping the latest-and-greatest is not even mildly remarkable.

Most important? Hardly. There are several alternative browsers that work just as well.

Chromium (chromium-browser) is nice, but it is still in sid. I had to learn how to mix Debian versions just to try it out. Konqueror, not so nice. Galeon, Epiphany et al I don't like.

What's wrong with Konqueror? With the Webkit rendering engine it works great for me.

I haven't tried the others.

Nothing really wrong, but it does not fit in with my XFCE desktop, probably because of its Qt heritage. For instance I have to set absurdly low point sizes for fonts (like 6), the menus look and feel different, and so on. On KDE it is probably a perfect fit.

Chromium integrates better with my desktop and looks more polished, although with its custom window management the title bar has a completely weird look.

I think it's possible to configure Chrome/Chromium to use the system window management instead of this custom window management.

No it is not.

It is possible to configure chromium to deign to allow its window to be decorated, which means you get two sets of control widgets on the screen for the one window. This is insane, but it's what they have implemented.

Obviously that's not the intended behaviour. It sounds like whatever version you're using has a bug.

It is the intended behavior. The built-in chrome remains. I researched this and found the developers to say "so what?"

This isn't happening for me on GNOME - I have the system window decoration and no built-in equivalents in Chrome. So it must be somewhat environment specific.

I've got Google Chrome 5.0.375.86 beta here, and using "Use system title bar and borders" gives a window without anything out of the ordinary, as compared to other windows on my system. I've got a similar version of Chromium at home, and it behaves the same way. On the other hand, changing the value of the option while the window is open doesn't seem to get my window manager (fvwm2) to change its behavior entirely; if the window manager stuff wasn't there initially, it doesn't appear, and if the window manager stuff was there initially, only the borders disappear, and they reappear briefly if I move the mouse across the edge of the window.
