FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MontaVista Software and Motorola to Make Available Embedded Linux Platform
for i.MX Processors

Alliance Targets Applications for Mobile Computing and Wireless Handset
Markets

Austin, Texas, and Sunnyvale, Calif., July 8, 2003 ‹ Motorola, Inc.¹s
(NYSE:MOT) Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS), the world leader in RF
(radio frequency) and embedded silicon solutions, and MontaVista Software
Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that
MontaVista³ Linux³ Professional Edition 3.0 will support the Motorola i.MX1
and i.MXL family of applications processors.

Both i.MX1 and i.MXL (media extension) processors are designed using ³smart
speed² techniques to maximize applications performance with the lowest
possible power consumption for use in smartphones, personal digital
assistants (PDAs) and many other mobile devices. Based on ARM® core
technology, the i.MX processors offer a high degree of on-chip integration
with features such as the multimedia extensions and video port enabling
manufacturers to use fewer components in their wireless devices, thus
helping reduce system costs.

³Because of its comprehensive feature-set and bundling with extensive
software components, MontaVista Linux is a popular choice for many embedded
applications,² said Franz Fink, vice president and general manager, Wireless
and Mobile Systems Group, Motorola. ³This alliance allows software
developers to leverage the benefits of both Motorola¹s market leadership in
the applications processor space and MontaVista Linux software solution to
accelerate the development process for building innovative, smart mobile
devices that includes support for wireless-enabled, broadband multimedia,
and Internet connectivity.²

MontaVista Linux supports a range of enhanced interactive features in
advanced consumer electronics by offering high performance, real-time
capability and the service reliability that consumers expect. MontaVista
Linux boasts the industry¹s most comprehensive support for embedded
processor architectures, central processing unit (CPU) boards and software
components.

³MontaVista proudly adds Motorola i.MX processors to the industry-leading
array of embedded CPUs that we support,² said Judith Wheatley, vice
president, Business Development, MontaVista Software. ³MontaVista Linux and
Motorola¹s i.MX family together offer a validated development platform for
embedded devices, which can help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
significantly reduce design complexity and speed time-to-market for their
next-generation highly differentiated wireless products.²

Motorola helped launch the handheld computing industry with its best-selling
DragonBall applications processor, and remains a category leader with the
technological advancements of its i.MX family. The processors are engineered
to allow manufacturers to develop cost-effective wireless-enabled smart
handhelds with a full range of capabilities, such as digital image capture,
file sharing, wireless connectivity, e-commerce using smartcards, multimedia
entertainment and more all with low component count, long battery life,
and exceptional performance for additional applications and features.

MontaVista Linux Professional Edition 3.0 for the i.MX1 and MXL platforms is
expected to be available direct from MontaVista and MontaVista distribution
channels worldwide in the third quarter of 2003. It is offered as a product
subscription, providing customers with the MontaVista Linux kernel,
