Parent article: On bootstrapping a community-run FOSS event

FOSDEM (Belgium) is my favourite community-run free software event. It's been going about ten years now and has over 2,000 attendees per year, so it's a good example of scale and community.

fscons (Sweden) is an example of a community-run event that was launched only two years ago and has been an instant success.

FISL (Brazil) is another massive one. They had the President of Brazil give a speech about free software last year! That's success.

Ciaran, FOSDEM attendee numbers are more in the order of 5000+.
