The article says:

If one wanted to use 16GB pages as supported on later versions of POWER for example
But surely it means 16MB ?

hugetlbpage.txt makes no mention of an arch with 16GB page sizes.

No, you can actually have 16GB pages on recent power systems. See here for instance.
