of course, the first thing to do to install org-mode is to actually install emacs-snapshot rather than emacs, as most distros aren't shipping a gtk and nicely fontified version of emacs...

Under ubuntu, that's

apt-get remove emacs
apt-get install emacs-snapshot
apt-get install org-mode emacs-goodies-el
