The default karma value of 3 can be changed to any number decided by the package maintainers. They can choose to disable auto promoting based on Karma as well.

Well, I think it's wrong for a distributor to change such important defaults. Also, this is a beta after all; only people who are on some unstable track should get this kind of stuff.

True which is why it got reverted back in the next update.
