Well to each their own. To me the UI is simple (and really not that different from other GUI mailers). I appreciate configurability (keyboard shortcuts) and that it generally stays out of my way in formatting mails etc (patches is no problem for example). Filtering is also very simple to use from the GUI.
I view HTML mails without problems in claws mail by the way, but agree that calendar stuff is a bit lacking. It's not a problem in practice for me though, but I understand that other people might be better off with evolution.
Earlier versions were a bit unstable, but since the last couple of versions I've not had problems with crashes.
