Agreed. Evolution manages to take longer to read a single mailbox with
5000 mails in it (over NFS over GigE) than Gnus takes to get new mail in a
couple of dozen mailboxes totalling perhaps 50,000 mails. And Gnus is not
exactly renowned for speed.

One of these days I must sysprof it (now that sysprof has learnt to use
perf :) ) and see where the time is going.
