Three years after the last device is shipped. This is very different than three years.

Actually, three years after the last distribution of the software. If there is a firmware upgrade available for download, that would count as distribution. This is very different than "last device shipped".

If you want to be technical it would be three years after product EOL(end of life), which would include both sale and firmware update support or in the case of Windows XP until enough people complain so that it is extended further. Your statement assumes that the last firmware update came AFTER the last product containing GPL code was shipped.

My point was it is far more then just three years.
