By popular demand: LWN T-shirts

[LWN shirt] It took a while, but we have finally managed to get our act together and put a set of LWN-logo T-shirts at the Cafe Press LWN.net store. There are also sites in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. An LWN shirt marks the wearer as one of the LWN-reading elite, and sales help to support the site as well. We know that none of you have enough Linux-related T-shirts, so please have a look and fill out your wardrobe.

Two different logo styles ... hmm, what to do, what to do ...

We can add a third if that helps :)

Having some other color than white would help... like black, for example. And how about a polo-
shirt for the collar-wearing, LWN-reading elite? ;-)

An option of a black polo would be great.

Umm, sorry to disappoint, but the black polo is not yet available. Some technical issues dealing with the embroidered logo, which we hope to resolve soon.

Black polo shirts

Please don't! I already bought me one of Bruce Schneier's Skein polo shirts, I don't want to be tempted again and have to make another LWN order... oh shoot.

More shirts have been added. There's a black polo shirt now and other dark shirts, by popular demand.

Ya, add a billion combos. I don't think it costs you any more at cafepress AFAIK. For instance I liked the one with the big penguin reading the paper, clicked on it and was like "oh, women's vneck". No matter how much I like lwn, I am *not* going to change my sex just to wear one of your shirts.

Hope they have a good stock of those women's shirts. I'm sure they going to fly right off the shelf! ;)

Black (or at least dark) men's vneck T-shirt would be great.

So, he said mischeviously...

Since your design includes the trademark "Linux", did you have to get a license from someone, since you're using the design in commerce?

Trademark law at least in the US doesn't work that way: the trademark holder doesn't own all uses of the word (despite what the Drupal people appear to believe). If Linus tried to stop Jon from using the tag line "Linux info from the source", he'd lose.

So, he said mischeviously...

But Linux is also a trademark for textile stuffs, so probably if the shirts
are not made using linux (I expect it as a linen made texil) it is a
trademark infringement ;-)

So, he said mischeviously...

Yes, Joe, but since I made that argument about 50 different ways on the Drupal thread, and everyone told me I was worng, I figured I'd let someone else say it.

I'm not keen on logo clothing. What I'd like to see, though, is something
to stick on the backside of the screen of my laptop, to cover up the DELL
logo.

The FSF has sent associate members GNU and free software-related stickers
several times. Aren't you an associate member? Tsk tsk ;}

Oops, there are stickers. Now I'm conflicted. What I really want is one of those >2mm thick ones with the rounded edges.

By the way, Café Press stocks what seems rather an excess of "You lie!", "Waterboard Pelosi", and similar stickers... http://bumperstickers.cafepress.com/stickers

And if you don't like what they have, go to makestickers.com, and make your own. I don't know what sort of specialty printer they own, but I Must Have One.

We made a sticker for my sister that lasted *3 years* with only nominal fading. They're *not* inkjet.

A +1 on black clothing please.

Would love to have some of these ready to wear at SuperComputing 09 in
Portland this November!

Could you remove the peach coloured bar from this design - http://www.cafepress.co.uk/LWN_net.408207269 ?

I really hate to kibitz other people's designs... but s/he's right; on white that would fly, but the green's so dark that the peach bar overpowers it.

You know, to really sell t-shirts, you need some controversial slogans.

Here are a couple:
'vi: just say ESC q!'
'emacs: just say C-x C-c'

You might not want lwn to be associated with that, though. I guess you could do some without the LWN logo.

Please: Shirt with pocket!

I'm a geek, I don't know where to put my pens when wearing a T-shirt without a pocket! The funny thing is: I'm always looking for shirts with pockets, and the last I found was a "geek-style" shirt with a fake pocket and fake pens in it! Extremely disgusting ;-)

Please: Shirt with pocket!

I also need a pocket and collar for a shirt that I can wear to work

Why doesn't the dark one have something on the back?

What would also be nice is a polo style short-sleeve with an __embroidered__ logo. That would be something I could wear at the office.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to put a link to the store site on the LWN site as well? I mean, once this article goes on the 2nd+ page, am I supposed to go searching for it, if I want to buy one of the t-shirts? Or maybe the link is already there and I can't find it?

Surely specifying that T-shirts are for "organic men" is a little redundant, given the paucity of inorganic men amongst the LWN-reading, T-shirt-wearing community?
