Looks like the version number in RH's kernels bears little resemblance to what the original "2.6.18" actually means. Why does RH persist on backporting so much stuff instead of just using a newer kernel? I can see a perceived need to keep the ABI stable, but so much backporting can and does increase the risk of internal inconsistencies within such a mongrel kernel.
