Really Debian needs Ubuntu and Ubuntu needs Debian.
They have to work together. It's reality.
Ubuntu could not exist without the high quality packages that Debian produces. It would be _impossible_.
And Ubuntu is able to provide something that Debian so far has failed utterly... Make a friendly Linux desktop. Debian _can't_ do it. I don't know why. But they can't.
And I actually prefer Debian over Ubuntu for my desktop. Compared to Fedora or Ubuntu the Debian desktop experience is nothing but a huge PITA. It takes about 4-5 hours of nerd work to make their Gnome stuff as usable as what I can get from Fedora in 10 minutes.
I can't even get PA to work properly for me. The volumes controls for Gnome and Compiz and all that are all goofed up. I don't know what to do to fix it. With Fedora it was just right.
Debian needs Ubuntu for that sort of stuff.
