This is wonderful news: I'm really glad the release team did not dig in their heals in the face of the opposition (as I've seen happen before in cases like this.) Debian is quite lucky that they have such good people working for them.

No matter if the ultimate decision is to change the timeline or to stick to it as originally announced, that it will be done with the some public deliberation and discussion ahead-of-time will certainly improve the way the decision is perceived.
