For the hack that it is prelinking has been incredibly stable and unobtrusive on all the Fedora production boxes that I've used. The rawhide problem was only the second time that it caused something of a pain for me, and the first one was years ago and not nearly as severe.

I remember from the days when I used Fedora that prelink was one of the first things I would disable after a new install/update (selinux was another). As I remember it, excessive I/O caused by periodic prelink re-linking was a major annoyance, and made my Linux boxes feel as if they were running Windows. Prelink was also causing subtle problems, e.g., to win32 plugins in mplayer, IIRC.

But hey, it's been years ago, maybe things have improved since then.
