Hi Jonathan,
Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database company, announced the creation of EasyIngres,
an Ingres developer community product that helps PHP developers easily create applications using
Ingres and simplifies the transition from MySQL to Ingres. This development kit comes at a critical
time when MySQL developers are on stand-by waiting to see the outcome of Oracle's purchase of Sun.
EasyIngres allows those developers the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge of PHP and
add a new set of mission-critical database development skills to their resumes.
EasyIngres, a package which automatically installs a PHP development environment, is a community
project that brings together the Ingres database, Apache and PHP projects to streamline the setup
and configuration process. Included in the bundle are Ingres 9.2, Apache 2.2.8, PHP 5.2.9, Ingres
Developer Workbench, Scite Editor Version 1.77 and the Frequent Flyer application, all in a single
installable package. EasyIngres is available for download now at:

The full press release is copied below. If you're interested in learning more about EasyIngres or
the Ingres community, we can set up a meeting with Emma McGrattan, SVP of Engineering at Ingres
anytime - just let me know. You can also find Emma's latest thoughts on the topic on her blog,

INGRES ANNOUNCES EASYINGRES TO SIMPLIFY TRANSITION FROM MYSQL
Community Project Makes Installation and Use of PHP Development Environment for Ingres Fast and
Easy
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - July 14, 2009 - Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database company
and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, announced today the creation of EasyIngres, an Ingres
developer community product that helps PHP developers easily create applications using Ingres and
simplifies the transition from MySQL to Ingres. Spearheaded by Cédric Pasquotti a PHP developer
based in France, EasyIngres bundles all necessary components to easily create PHP applications
which can take advantage of the enterprise feature set provided by Ingres. EasyIngres is now
available for download at
http://esd.ingres.com/product/Community_Projects/Developm....
"The EasyIngres developer team recognized early on that it's not just the enterprise that demands
the best database technology - Web 2.0 and social networking companies are managing more
mission-critical business and customer data than ever before," said Emma McGrattan, senior vice
president of engineering, Ingres. "EasyIngres makes it easy for PHP developers to transition to
Ingres from MySQL and take advantage of the superlative performance, scalability, and security
features of our code right away."
"From the moment I worked on Ingres, I knew that as a community we could make it much easier for
PHP developers to work in their environment," said Cédric Pasquotti. "So, for the first time ever,
we put together all of the various components needed to write PHP applications for Ingres, and
packaged it as a single installable image. In turn, we've made it significantly easier for PHP
developers to make the switch over to Ingres."
EasyIngres was designed with productivity in mind, and offers enterprise
capabilities for business critical projects, from the desktop to the data center.
EasyIngres is just one example of how the Ingres community has been at the forefront of innovation
for Ingres and its products. Significant updates have been made to the Ingres Community page in
recent weeks and developers are encouraged to check out the new site at
http://community.ingres.com/.
"The updates Ingres has made to its community webpage have been substantial," said Kim Ginnerup, a
Technical Director at Bording Data who has been using Ingres for 22 years. "I have seen the company
and the software change dramatically over the years. Right now, they're on the right track to
build, support, and help their community grow. Ingres support has always been in a league of its
own. By leveraging Web 2.0, social networking, and blogging, Ingres is now taking the next natural
step by offering the community the opportunity to work together to make this great product we use
every day even better."
