QOTW: "[W]ell organised, good company, could have used some extra
talks." - Jos Decoster [On EuroTcl 2009] [slides and other artifacts
are available through http://www.eurotcl.org/2009/schedule.html]
Martyn has found and/or patched subtle anomalies in 8.5 ctext having
to do with <<Selection>> and <<Modified>>:

Tk work in the default "." window presents at least a couple of
disadvantages. An obvious alternative is to [withdraw] it away,
and complete an application in [toplevel]s. There are subtleties
to this, though ...:

Most GUI frameworks distinguish a listbox "selection" from the
listbox's "active" element. This is a good thing:

Thanks to Arjen Markus for his (mostly) weekly summary of Wiki action:
Last week we had the European Tclers' Meeting - it is always
pleasantly surprising to see what people are using Tcl/Tk for ...
But let us focus on the summary.
Books, tutorials and people
- A new book/tutorial on Oratcl, it has been on the comp.lang.tcl
newsgroup, but the Wiki has the reference too: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/204>
- A tutorial on Wub can be found at <http://wiki.tcl.tk/15781> and
it is easier than you may think.
- Revamping Jacl, watch the progress at <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23679> and
the full Google Summer of Code project is described at
<http://wiki.tcl.tk/23201>
- Another GSoC project: printing support - a vexing subject that
was extensively discussed at the European meeting. Find the
ideas and suggestions at <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23196>
- There is not a full report of that meeting yet, but some things
that were discussed are there: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/22566>
Mostly graphical stuff
- Your chronicler was inspired by a very impressive demonstration
of railway simulation software ... <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23665>
merely highlights one aspect of that.
- The GIMP can be run in interactive mode, but just as easily
in batch mode, offering ample opportunity for scripting the
operations: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23666>
- Have you ever wanted to see what Unicode characters are
available in your favourite font? This quick-and-dirty
viewer/selector may help: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/23653>
- Displaying images with Tcl/Tk ... Here is a JPEG viewer,
with limited portability, but fast: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/3689>
- Yet another demo of Tcl3D: <http://wiki.tcl.tk/17771> and
you may be interested in the latest developments too:

Cameron Laird tracks several Tcl/Tk references of interest (but
needs to validate many of the links).

though clta itself is dormant.

We're working on more useful archives of past installments. Dave
