Although it maybe wasn't designed for it and its latencies and overhead
probably will significantly reduce performance from the stated specs, at
these speeds and with full-duplex support, it competes with Ethernet,
Fiberchannel and even Infiniband (at the very low end admittedly.) I can
easily see using USB 3.0 as a poor man's Infiniband replacement. If
future motherboards come with as many USB 3.0 ports as todays boards have
2.0 ports, then it would be trivial (and cheap?) to setup rack-level mesh
or star topologies or even small scale fully connected topologies. Should
hopefully at least give 10+Gbps Ethernet a kick in the pants.
