FSF welcomes AdBard network for free software advertising
The Free Software Foundation (FSF) has welcomed the launch of AdBard, a new advertising network for technology based websites based upon the promotion of Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) friendly products and services. "The AdBard Network has been created by Tag1 Consulting to serve websites dedicated to free software ideals, helping them connect with companies selling products and services targeting a FLOSS audience. AdBard solves the problem that more generic advertising has led to the display of proprietary software products on sites that otherwise promote computer user freedom."
More changes at Openmoko
Sean Moss-Pultz has sent out an announcement on the future of Openmoko and the Freerunner phone. It seems that Openmoko has laid off much of its remaining staff and is getting out of the phone business. As part of that transition, it will be handing over as much information to the community as possible. "I am extremely excited about the idea of an entirely community-built open phone. Especially since, when the next design is complete, it will have the benefits of everything uncovered since the Freerunner shipped last July. It will be buzz free, glamo free, and free of the recamping bug (#1024) - which I am happy to announce has been solved this past week. We promise to support these efforts with additional resources such as components to build prototypes of the new design. We will help to empower you to build the open phone of our future." Meanwhile, Openmoko is headed off to work on "an altogether different type of device." (Thanks to Timo Jyrinki).

savannah.gnu.org status
The server that hosts GNU and other projects, savannah.gnu.org had a catastrophic failure over the weekend. A message in the savannah-users mailing list describes the problems with a RAID array which eventually led to filesystem corruption. This took out the source code repositories for the projects hosted there. "The last backup was performed while RAID was buggy, and lots of files were reported missing, in particular for CVS/SVN/Git/Hg. Hence the last backup is incomplete. [...] And, our last full backup from tape is from end of April. Normally tape backups are more recent, but there were independent backup issues. We've not discussed since in detail as we're focusing on recovering the data asap." Status updates are available via fsfstatus on identi.ca. (thanks to David P. Reed).

Bilski case going to the U.S. Supreme Court
Scotusblog reports that the Bilski case will be reviewed by the US Supreme Court. "Not since 1981 has the Supreme Court undertaken to spell out the kinds of inventions that are eligible for patent rights that is, the right to produce or use an invented device or process, or to license it to others for royalties. Much has changed since the Courts decision in Diamond v. Diehr in 1981, not least the digital revolution."
