Hey

I could not run it in my Linux box. So I tried the windows version - just to get the look and feel. I should say that I am impressed - with the sleek gui, performace and well with the well-selected feature set.

I got it up and running on Linux, but it's picking up that crappy default Debian theme, so I'll hold off calling the UI slick for the time being. Alas, no Bitstream Vera fonts either. Performance seems a lot better than Mozilla 1.3 though.

NOTE: If you install this on a Debian system you're going to find that running /usr/bin/mozilla now starts Firebird, which probably isn't what you wanted.

Then I believe you are running KDE...

I do not know why this happens, but I have experienced the same thing (with Phoenix).

If you install Mozilla AFTER Mozilla Firebird, there should be no problems.

Be the way, right now I'm using GNOME 2.2 (the backport), and here there is no problems like the one, this thing is all about.

And to the looks...
Maybe you should pick another theme or something. ;-)

Now I have tested it in KDE...

I have not the problem, you told about (anymore ?!!). It seems to work a lot better than Phoenix, and Mozilla is not affected by the new Mozilla Firebird ...

Have you updated your system lately?
I don't understand it anymore, I thought it was KDE ... but now there is nothing wrong. (Is this to any help at all?)

Ohh! I should ad that I'm using both GNOME 2.2 and KDE (on seperate partitions) for testing... I can't deside what to use...
And Ogle don't like GNOME 2.2 (I haven't found the problem, yet).

Yeah, it's Debian unstable, and I update it once a day.

I should ad that I'm using both GNOME 2.2 and KDE (on seperate partitions) for testing...

This is happening with Gnome 2.2 for me. At first I tought it was something in the environment, but this does not appear to be the case. I'll have to read through the mozilla scripts I guess..

Worse yet, "mozilla -mail" opens another Firebird window if Firebird is running. That must be a bug, not a feature. The workaround is to specify the profile:

mozilla -P default -mail

Try "./run-mozilla.sh ./MozillaFirebird"

In the future you should probably learn to read shell code and submit a useful bugreport rather than indignantly whine about shallow bugs.

Note, I can read shell and in fact that is how I got firebird running. But there are these things called usability and documentation, and everyone but the djb list flame boys understand that one is entitled to expect a modicum of both by the time you get to a 0.6 release.

Firebird seems ok so far. As with Mozilla 1.4 series, it seems fast but also lacks the antialiased fonts that make 1.3 such a pleasure to use. Some widgets look extra-crappy to me in Firebird.

You're right, but only for the default builds. If you build your own, you can compile in support for xft and gtk2, for extra shininess.

What I was getting was a segmentation fault.
You do not debug segmentation faults by reading shell code, right?
There are different kind of users and not everyone is expected to debug and submit a bug report for every bug they find. Please be kind enough to spare them...

Sometimes the cause of the segfault is something in the shell script. (Not necessarily this time, but can happen...admittedly if it happens that way there's a bug somewhere but changing the script can affect it is my point...) Just to stay on topic, I had no trouble starting up Mozilla Browser (codename Firebird) on my Linux box running Gentoo; unpacked the default build into its own directory and ran 'phoenix'... it came up nicely. (I will try my own build to get xft and gtk2 though...)

try mv ~/.mozilla ~/.old-mozilla and then
./MozillaFirebird maybe?

I have tried phoenix before, so removing .phoenix and then running MozillaFirebird worked for me. i'm on debian unstable x86

Copy that tuxy! I'm a little baffled by this chatter about which file to run (it's MozillaFirebird), removing .mozilla (firebird uses .phoenix, which should be removed on upgrade), and so on. Anyone who reads the short & simple instructions on the download page should be able to avoid these problems.
