The free software yocto-reader had a problem like this not too long ago.
I would be a shame if developing free web (-interfacing) applications was increasingly unfeasible. Having all these web APIs that make you use some proprietary library (include, even...) is a serious departure from developing in a free operating system with free libraries, and it does deserve some attention.
