Stacking is NOT a new idea. Back in 2002 I developed a small stacker for LSM as it existed at the time (http://www.dwheeler.com/misc/stacker.c).

Serge E. Hallyn took up the idea and ran with it. His work is here:

LSM stacking still makes sense. Sure, there are cases where you can't reasonably combine components, but it's still useful.
