It would be interesting to go back and look at the various initramfs' in the distros at some
point.  When I wrote initramfs-tools in Ubuntu (which was adopted and later largely taken over
by Debian Developers), there were two camps: One saying that anything for early userspace
startup (up to and including partition mapping) should be done in userspace, and some saying
that it should always be in the kernel.

I'd guess that we're far enough along do either finish putting things into klibc to make this
work or give up on the notion.  I can't guess, though, which it might be.
