If you never tried KDE or Gnome, then believe me, you _are_ missing something. I use both, and
though I prefer KDE, I do find Gnome awesome.

Of course I tried both. Thing is, I'm used to do things from a terminal, 
and then desktop environments like KDE and Gnome add very little value,
or so it seems. Maybe they have some great programs that are bundled up 
with them, but can use those without running Gnome or KDE too I'd hope. 
Can you explain what all the excitement is about?
