Udev rules and the management of the plumbing layer

Remind me again... didn't a certain CEO of Canonical go out of his way to make a public call
for cross distro collaboration in the last couple of months?  And now, one of his companies
employees is reluctant to change how they are doing things...to aid in cross-distro
collaboration with regard to udev? Perhaps Shuttleworth should send a few more internal
company memos and get his employees on board before his next public challenge to the open
source development community.  I would have thought a Canonical employee would be jumping at
the chance to publically prove that Canonical was really as interested in bringing down the
barriers between distros given Shuttleworth's passion about it previously...even if there are
technical concerns on how to do it right.
