It's just a unique identifier. All the git commands accept these (as well as tags, branch names and a huge bunch of other ways of identifying commits, trees, and so on, see 'Specifying Revisions' in the git-rev-parse(1) manpage). Try 'git show b7279469d66b55119784b8b9529c99c1955fe747' to see what it is.
