No, it gave up the masquerade long ago, is is an operating system. :-)

emacs was my first introduction to Free Software, and I never looked back. Thanks, indeed, RMS.

Likewise. (Well, that and GCC, at a time when its primary maintainer had 
been RMS for more than half its life).

I suppose I should also thank Eberhard Mattes for his 'EMX' system, 
without which I might not have made the big jump into the free software 
world from the shrinking prison of OS/2 at all.
