Somebody mentioned a libhugetlbfs. The HOWTO there doesn't offer any hints on how or where to mount it. Presumably current mount(8) knows the fs type, but where should it go? Maybe it doesn't matter, because the lib will find it wherever it is?

I haven't tried it, but Documentation/vm/hugetlbpage.txt in the Linux source explains how to mount it.
