Fedora 8 Nodoka Theme

Jonathan Roberts talks with Martin Sourada, creator of the Nodoka theme. "For a while now, Clearlooks has been the default theme in Fedora; in fact, for a long time, Clearlooks has been the default theme in a number of distros thanks to its place as Gnome's default. Aiming to give Fedora its own distinct and modern appearance is Nodoka: based on its own theme engine it's extremely fast, and when seen in combination with the rest of the artwork for Fedora 8 is beautiful."

I'm still a big fan of the bluecurve theme.

When I first saw it, years ago, I hated it. I made quite of few jokes about its creators being legally blind. I was enjoying the overly-flashy Keramik at the time, if you can believe it. But I switched from Mandrake to RedHat 8.0 and Bluecurve kind of grew on me. I now find it very pleasant and business-like. It looks slightly dated to me today, but is still quite serviceable. I prefer clearlooks. But Bluecurve has stood the test of time pretty well. A tribute to its sensible design.

BlueCurve is still installed by default (but not enabled now) in Fedora and a port for KDE 4 has also been recently made available. For the many fans of this theme, is it going to be available for the foreseeable time in the future too.

Exactly the same happened to me.
When I first saw it, I didn't like it; only after a couple of months I realised its elegance. Simple, clear, professional.
What I don't like, is the bluecurve icon theme, always seemed kind of amateurish to me.

I'm not often motivated to comment but I do have congratulate Martin on Nodoka. Fedora 8 looks and feels 'nice'.

I've seen the latest Clearlooks in Gnome 2.20 in Ubuntu Gutsy's latest beta and it looks extremely nice (not when in "Human" caramel, though). I like it far better than Nodoka, but then, I have not seen Nodoka in combination with the rest of Fedora 8 artwork.

still KDE rules supreme

I'd say "extremely fast" is pushing it a bit...
gtkperf figures:
bluecurve: 8.40 seconds
nodoka : 17.95 seconds

Hmmm. It looks mostly fine, apart from the forward and back buttons, which just look amateurish, and nowhere near as clear and concise as they should be.
