Kernel release status

The current 2.6 prepatch is 2.6.23-rc6, released by Linus on September 10. The number of fixes this time around is relatively small, partly because many of the developers were off at the kernel summit last week. The long-format changelog has the details.

The flow of patches into the mainline git repository continues; there will almost certainly need to be an -rc7 release before this kernel is done.

There have been no -mm releases over the last week.

For older kernels: 2.6.20.19 was released on September 8 with one security fix in the IPv6 code.

2.4.35.2 was released on September 8; it contains mostly compiler-related fixes. 2.4.36-pre1 was also released on the 8th; it contains a few fixes and a patch to optionally prevent processes from mapping the NULL address.
