About the author:

Rick F. van der Lans is an independent consultant, author and lecturer
specializing in database technology, development tools, data
warehousing, and XML. He is managing director of R20/Consultancy based
in The Netherlands, and has advised many large companies worldwide on
defining their IT architectures. Rick chairs the European Meta Data
Conference, and has columns in several magazines. For seven years he
served on the Dutch committee responsible for developing the
international ISO standard for SQL.
