I'm surprised OLPC wasn't mentioned. It is a very Free piece of hardware, excluding the non-free wireless firmware, which will hopefully change.

Of course, truly Free hardware would have all the schematics and ASIC VHDL/Verilog code under a Free license.

And OpenSPARC is one of these really free things.

I saw OLPC more among the laptops, which are a very large and complex area. It was my fear that trying to incorporate them would have made the article too long.

But yes, the OLPC is a very interesting project.
