yeah, ubuntu has some bugs. . the adept manager only checks for updates folllowing a reboot--for users like me who leave a machine in suspend, weeks can go by . .

also, one of the kernel _updates_ whiped out many users wifi's. . . only the old kernel would work--not so good. further, after filing a bug report, months went by before i was notified by the maintainer.. really not good.

i really like many of the values ubuntu has, but the qa is very sloppy. they need a much bigger beta pond.

Must be something about your setup - My main kubuntu box doesn't normally get rebooted, but the update notifier works fine - the update icon appears in the panel whenever new updates are available.

are you running edgy or dapper? i went with a long support cycle so i have avoided even trying edgy. .
