Parent article: An API for specifying latency constraints

This kind of response to things just can't be beat. No doubt commercial OS vendors (Sun, Microsoft) could act this fast internally, but then it would be ages before it hit the customers and before the new API got some traction with other developers. Even the old kernel dev model, with even numbers = stable and odd numbers = dev, weren't as fast. There are a few hiccups with this fast release cycle, but they are pretty minor overall, and it constantly amazes me how well the kernel team handles this new dev cycle.

Go Linux!

Absolutely. I still hear people very external to the Linux community
gripe about the 2.6 process from time to time (leaving me to wonder why
they care since they're not users). Being on LKML, it's damn easy to
notice just how effective 2.6 really is. With 2.6, everyone wins - users,
distributors and developers.
