Jitterbit 1.1 released (SourceForge) [LWN.net]

Version 1.1 of Jitterbit has been announced. "Jitterbit 1.1 is a major release for the Jitterbit open source integration product. Jitterbit is an open source integration tool that delivers a quick and simple way to design, configure, test, and deploy integration solutions. It supports many document types and protocols: XML, web services, database, LDAP, text, FTP, HTTP(S), file."

Digging through the press release and associated website of this
organization and product, it is impressive that nowhere does any of the
text clearly state what this software system is for.

Reading through their FAQ, Data Sheet, Press release, and so on has led
me to guess that this is some sort of data piping application, allowing
you to connect various dispirate programs together. I suspect it has
features for scheduling, transformations, and data flow between apps that
probably make this tool the nerve center of data flow. I wonder if it is
truly in the modern Service Oriented Architecture style, where the idea
is to speak with the systems natively but loosely coupled so that changes
can be painlessly rolled out, or whether it is yet another
one-datapipe-to-rule-them-all that just gets you stuck in its ways of
doing things.

In any event, the horrifying tree widget of doom (screenshot) combined
with a press release that says nothing suggests to stay away from this
one.
