The 2.6.17 kernel is out Posted Jun 19, 2006 17:18 UTC (Mon) by allesfresser (subscriber, #216) [Link] I found it kind of strange that a lot of the configuration options in 2.6.17 have different defaults than previous releases (for example, the default processor on x86 is set to Athlon/Duron (K7) instead of i486 or whatever, and automatic kernel module loading is off by default.) Just kind of weird... The 2.6.17 kernel is out Posted Jun 19, 2006 19:04 UTC (Mon) by Thue (guest, #14277) [Link] (1 responses) I like the last entry in the changelog :) : Linux v2.6.17 Being named "Crazed Snow-Weasel" instills a lot of confidence in this release, so I'm sure this will be one of the better ones. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.17 The 2.6.17 kernel is out Posted Jun 19, 2006 21:10 UTC (Mon) by proski (guest, #104) [Link] Linus must be a fan of "The Future is Wild", in particular of the Snowstalker. Apparently Linus shares his passion to snow dwelling mustelidae with Debian developers who proposed to call Mozilla Firefox Iceweasel. If Linus is ever knighted, his coat of arms should use ermine in addition to the penguins. The 2.6.17 kernel is out Posted Jun 19, 2006 21:43 UTC (Mon) by drag (guest, #31333) [Link] I like that I now can use my 'Airport Extreme' card in Debian. I am currently using a 2.6.17 release canadate and having good luck with the bcm43xx driver. These broadcom chipsets are among the most popular 54mbit wireless adapters. This should eliminate the need for most of the people stuck on using those horrid ndiswrapper based drivers. Already a bugfix Posted Jun 20, 2006 20:49 UTC (Tue) by job (guest, #670) [Link] 2.16.17.1 is already out with an SCTP bugfix, and it looks like someone kept their promise since 2.6.16.21 seems to have the fix backported to the 2.6.16 tree! Palm sync on Dapper Posted Jun 20, 2006 22:58 UTC (Tue) by stephenjudd (guest, #3227) [Link] From what I'm hearing it fixes a most important Ubuntu Dapper bug (bug 38574) with Palm syncing which has prevented most people from syncing successfully. The 2.6.17 kernel is out Posted Jun 21, 2006 12:20 UTC (Wed) by blietaer (guest, #19752) [Link] Any idea why 2.6.17.1 came so fast? I am the kind of freak who compiles the latest kernel within the week of release (yes, I _also_ use Linux for other purposes ;) But is it wise/efficient? Kernel Logs show rarely improvements that directly affects my config...
