Open AoE Storage Protocol Gains Performance Boost with Support for Jumbo
Ethernet Frames
Coraid Extends Value of AoE (ATA-over-Ethernet) with Contribution to Open
Source Community
SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., April 3, 2006 Coraid, the Linux Storage People, today
announced that they are increasing the throughput capabilities and reducing
server overhead by adding support for Jumbo Frames in the open AoE
(ATA-over-Ethernet) networked storage protocol. This addition enables AoE
product manufacturers like Coraid to offer faster storage products. The
company is contributing source code to the open source community for a new
Linux AoE driver with Jumbo Frame support. Coraid has published version 9 of
the AoE specification on the Coraid website.
Customers continue to want higher performing, more cost effective solutions
to store their critical data," said Jim Kemp, CEO of Coraid. By adding
Jumbo Frames support to AoE, Linux users can now take advantage very high
speed Ethernet by using a storage protocol that requires little processing
resources providing high storage IOPS (Input/Output Operations/Second)
without hardware accelerators. This allows Linux users to take advantage of
high network speeds like 10Gbps Ethernet at a lower cost with all the
benefits of open source.
As the originator of the AoE storage protocol, Coraid uses this technology as
the core of the companys award-winning EtherDrive® storage products. The AoE
driver is native in standard distributions that use the 2.6.11 and higher
Linux kernel. Open source drivers for other kernels are also available from
Coraid.
Coraids EtherDrive Storage utilizes the AoE storage protocol to deliver a
simple, scalable, affordable alternative to iSCSI or Fibre Channel storage
strategies. The company offers the most economical storage products
available for the Linux market, targeting the network storage needs of
businesses worldwide.
Coraid will demonstrate the new features and functionality of AoE in their
EtherDrive products at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo April 3 - 6 at the
Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in booth # 107.
About Coraid, Inc.
Coraid designs and manufactures innovative, affordable networked storage
appliances based on the "power of simple." Coraid also developed the open AoE
(ATA-over-Ethernet) protocol used by the EtherDrive storage product line. AoE
leverages the cost advantages of Ethernet to provide true networked storage.
Coraid's SATA+RAID EtherDrive Storage platform won the Product Excellence
Award for Best Data Backup and Storage Solution at the Linux World Expo 2005
in San Francisco. For more information, please contact Coraid at
