FlexWebmail and FlexControl are Added to the VA FMS Roster,
a Macroscale Messaging Solution
-- New Webmail Server and Web Interface for User/Mail Account Control
Products Will Answer Varied Demands for Mail System --
Tokyo, JAPAN - June 20, 2005 -- VA Linux Systems Japan K.K.
(VA Linux), a leading provider of Linux solutions for the
telecommunications and enterprise systems markets, today announced
that it newly introduced FlexWebmail, a high-performance Webmail
server, and FlexControl, a Web interface for user/mail account
control, as a part of the VA FMS (FlexMessaging Solution), a total
messaging solution. VA FMS are based on Open Source Software, and
achieves high reliability, high availability, high performance and
high extensibility. It supports from small-to-middle organizations
to large-scale network service providers which have over one million
accounts. Advance sales of FlexWebmail and FlexControl will begin
immediately, while delivery and full customer support for the
system will be available from September 2005.
FlexWebmail is based on RisuMail, a fork from a well-known Open Source
Webmail system called SquirrelMail (http://www.squirrelmail.org).
RisuMail features more aggressive Japanese support compared with the
original. VA Linux improved RisuMail further and incorporated it
into VA Linux's original GNU/Linux system called VA Core. In addition
to SquirrelMail's excellent characteristics such as easy
configuration, high availability which is crucial for
large-scale systems and easy-to-use address book feature, VA Linux
added several key improvements to it such as:
- FlexWebmail has its own cache. This improvement will reduce IMAP
servers' loads when the number of users and/or messages grows,
and contribute robustness and quick response.
- In addition to normal disk quota, FlexWebmail can get QUOTA
information from IMAP's GETQUOTAROOT command. FlexWebmail can show
QUOTA graph even on IMAP servers which uses QUOTA control.
- Improved search feature. Now it is possible to perform compound
searching on messages, which enables users to find out their needed
messages more quickly.
- Flag feature. Users of FlexWebmail are able to set `flag' on
important messages. Message status (read, unread, replied and etc.)
are shown as icons. Also, there are several miscellaneous UI
improvements such as added buttons.
FlexControl is a Web interface for administrators/operators/users of
macroscale mail system powered by VA FMS. FlexControl is highly
integrated into VA Core. With FlexControl, users can get information
and/or configure user/mail accounts easily via Web browsers.
Key features include adding/deleting user accounts, password
changing, setting up mail forwarding, auto reply, mail filtering,
message denial, mail alias, mailbox quota, collective mail deleting,
and changing virus check flags.
VA Linux has already started aggressive sales promotion for VA FMS
aimed at telecommunication carriers, network service providers and large
companies. By adding FlexWebmail and FlexControl to the VA FMS
roster, VA Linux is now able to offer even more comprehensive product
line which supports a wide range of customer demands for mail systems.
"VA FMS is an outstanding mail system solution, only possible with VA
Linux's technological excellence and exceptional source-code-level
knowledge on Linux and Open Source Software." said Tatsuya Ueda,
President and CEO of VA Linux in Tokyo. "Along with the firm
foundation provided by VA FMS, new products such as FlexWebmail
and FlexControl will help us to reach and provide our reliable
services to more broad customers."
FlexWebmail and FlexControl will be demonstrated at the exhibition
spot in VA Linux Business Forum 2005 (will be held at the Akasaka
Prince Hotel on June 22nd and 23rd, 2005).
