Sorry. I didn't read it like that at all. I'm a Gnome fan. I used to be a KDE fan. KDE 1.x had no equal. I stayed with it through about the time Keramik became standard (2.2? 3.0? I can't remember.) and then noticed that Gnome had gotten *really* good. So I've been solidly in the Gnome camp for some time and just don't see your complaint about the article.

The author is making a very reasonable, good, and true point that packaging for Linux apps is harder than packaging for an OS that doesn't have a zillion similar, but different, distros, and several similar, but different, "major" distros, many of which release new, improved and slightly incompatible versions every six months. And, of course, the existence of many Window Managers and a couple of different major Desktop Environments (any of which might be an option in any of the distro/version combinations). Add to that the fact that the community will jeer them if they cop out and standardize on, say, RedHat Enterprise Linux, and it's no wonder some companies decide it's too much work for too little gain.

That is what the author is saying. It's not a Desktop War issue.
