Parent article: A very quick guide to starting with git

As has been reported, Linus did release a kernel using git. So I guess the format change didn't cause much of a delay.

However, git-pasky hasn't become cogito quite yet. So I would still recommend waiting unless you're an active kernel developer who is really eager to start submitting patches...and is willing to take a bit of pain to do so.

Cogito is available

Petr (Pasky) just announced the release of cogito-0.8, which is the first "cogito" release, and which follows git-pasky-0.7. Here is the same announcement via three different git-list archives:

http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/298541
http://www.gelato.unsw.edu.au/archives/git/0504/2073.html
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=git&m=111448591221898...

Based on the first several hours of feedback, it looks like a clean release. Nobody has complained about horrible showstopper bugs, and several people have already submitted patches to add features.

There is a .deb available. There was a git-pasky RPM, so I expect a cogito RPM will appear soon.

Sad confession: I haven't yet tried cogito myself.
