As far as tracking document usage, why not just set the proxy settings
in Acroreader to a totally bogus proxy server, so it can't connect to the
net.

I like this option, great. THis way I can activate HTML access if necessary very fast, and stupid Acroread don't ask me. I checked that with bogus proxy settings (in fact localhost:1080) and the iptables rules I see a connect which immediate terminats. Good.
