Kermit? The frog?

I built a file-transfer system by hand on a Xenix system in 1984 or so, to allow distribution of data between my headquarters and the branches of the company. The files got from the Xenix box to the mainframe and back via RJE. I left there for awhile, and while I was gone, the tech team replaced it with a system that used the IBM mainframe, CMS, and Kermit to do that work, keeping my original design. Awhile after I returned, there was a sea change at the company and it was frankly taken over by Windows bigots. They needed a temporary system to allow the branches to communicate to the network without changes, I offered to implement that temporary solution using a Linux box with Kermit, and you should have heard the anger! How dare you use LINUX around here! Well, I just walked away from it and let these young experts figure out for themselves how to migrate their users. They wound up with a can of worms, which I refused to touch.

Needlesss to say, Kermit had nothing to do with it. It was all proprietary, and lasted about a year or so. By then, I was off to doing PC support mixed with Microsoft Exchange maintenance, powershell, and SQL server coding.

This is the first time I've seen anything much about Kermit in quite a few years.
