Various government agencies also have positioned themselves on the side of the OpenPGP process at the IETF.

See for example the technical guideline BSI TR-03116-4 from the German Federal Office for Information Security, specifying cryptographic requirements for federal government use. For PGP, the following sentence applies:
> PGP muss in der standardisierten Version OpenPGP konform zu RFC 9580 [44] verwendet werden.
This roughly translates to:
> PGP must be used in the OpenPGP version conforming to RFC 9580.
And yes, that "must" is a hard absolute requirement.

Which is fun, considering that g10 Code/GnuPG's main source of income are most likely various branches of the German government (with GPG4Win and VS-Desktop).
