I've said it before, but I'd take the megacorps' claims of "copyright doesn't matter for this" (even via fair use) if they'd ingest their own "crown jewels" into these training sets as well. Then I'd believe that they're at least consistent with their marketing/PR department shlep instead of just strip mining the commons.

I second your stance provided that the outputs are open weight. And so far open weight models have served us at home incredibly well. I am thoroughly impressed with how fast and good the latest midsize models perform on our RTX Workstation.

inb4 "but that is hypocritical" — my stance on copyright is that copyright is evil full stop, with Stephan Kinsella's arguments being essentially correct about intellectual poverty, and anything that undermines copyright is net good for the public. So, **** yeah open weights.

(Anyone is more than invited to argue his case — somewhere else tho; don't bother seeking to debate your opinion with me here. Simply not the right forum for that.)
