So, just like any *target* that would be hanging off the NVMe end of the IC?

How come it's feasible to buy O(N) NVMe SSDs, but not feasible to buy O(N) Thunderbolt target ICs?
An ASM2464 costs like $10 in bulk. That's nothing compared to the cost of the actual hardware on both sides of it.
You have strong opinions about NVMe, fine, but don't try to invent excuses for it that don't stand any sort of scrutiny :-)
