Matrix is also not only a protocol for chat – fun fact: originally the devs needed a protocol for a VRChat-like thing; Third Room – one could very well build a forum on the Matrix protocol. There have been clients that offered Facebook and Twitter-like experience but a full-fledged (web & search engine) accessible forum is sadly still missing.
