I had been following his XXH, LZ4, FSE and Zstd development years ago on his blog, as well as on encode.su (.ru by then) and his approach has always been very pragmatical, never strongly tied to his code, only reusing proven useful pieces and making forward progress in directions that deserved being explored. I, too, encourage reading his blog for anyone interested in data compression theory and the cache hierarchy impact on data access times.
